Every good cruise to Alaska has access to many different shore excursions. There are so many that it is hard to keep up and harder yet to know which one(s) to choose. Many of the shore excursions don’t have websites of their own even though they are great excursions. Those that have websites will often show you a good preview of the tour but you don’t get to hear from people that have experienced the excursion. In either case you will need to do some research to help you choose the right shore excursion for you. Here list to help you get the research started.
Trip Advisor
Trip Advisor is a great place to learn from actual tourists about an excursion, restaurant or destination. Anybody can sign up and let others know exactly how their trip was. Hopefully you will find many posts that detail why things were great or not so great. There might be some things that one person doesn’t like but others do.
Yelp!
Yelp! is very easy to use and search. You will be able to find many of the shore excursions operating in the area. The nice thing about Yelp! is that a company’s profile can’t be completely altered by the company. They are limited to posting pictures and contact information. This allows for great comments that are usually very descriptive about the excursions. If you can’t find the excursion that have already been on, please feel free to add it and write your review about it.
Social Networks
Social Networks are the direct link between companies and their customers. This is a very good way to learn more about the companies that provide the excursions. Between Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube you can find a lot about companies that people are talking about. Many people like to know who they are dealing with and want to know that there is a face behind the chatter for that excursion. Even if the excursion company doesn’t have a social network identity you may be able to find them through the searches on those social networks. Many people talk about their trips all year long and give good information about their experience.
When searching for excursions you are likely to come across a few for each event. Try to find out more about these companies before choosing one. Often times you will be able to come across something specific that will either steer you towards a certain excursion or far away. The great thing is that every excursion is different and every person is different.
If you have any questions or suggestions on how to find Alaska cruise excursions please feel free to post them in the comments. Happy searching!

Hi! I’m planning to bring my 11-year-old son on an Alaskan cruise. I think we may travel with Royal Caribbean June 5-11. How much does it cost for you to pick us up in port and take us on a tour of Gold Rush Dog Tours, including a cart ride? I would like to spend half of our stop in tour exploring and half of our stop with you. Thank you.
Hi Catherine,
Summer Camp is a great experience. We can arrange to pick you up on the dock and bring you out to our camp in Sheep Creek Valley. There are 120 sled dogs this year and plenty of pups looking forward to being held. You should allow 2.75 hours for the tour. The cost is $124.00 per person. If you would like to make a reservation drop me a line at chris@akdogtour.com. Its always best to make your reservations early as seats and times are limited.
We are a family of four, two adults and two kids (ages 4 and 9). Is the $124 to pick up and for the Summer Camp (and return to dock) the same price for adults and kids?
Thanks,
Benita
