Kat Manderfield was born into mushing. When she was a baby she rode in a pack on her mother’s back as both her parents helped organize a small race in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Growing up she went on training runs with her mother and occasionally helped take care of the dogs. At age twelve her older sister Angela became her mentor and taught her the ropes. From then until age sixteen Kat trained, and raced out of her own kennel of fourteen Alaskan huskies. From there she teamed up with Tom and Sally Bauer at Otter River Sled Dogs and worked in their kennel for the next four years. She plans on rebuilding her kennel in the near future.
